At an elevation of 6,300 feet, Abiquiú is located in one of the sunniest and driest states in the country. New Mexico is blessed with 320-340 annual days of sunshine, earning it a spot on the list of "most solar states."
Every month is a great month to visit Abiquiú, and each season offers a unique experience. On average, the warmest month is July and the coldest is January. In this desert climate, expect overnight temperatures to drop considerably. Always plan for cool evenings, even on the hottest summer days. Because this is high-desert, even lower temperature days will feel warmer than you may expect.The maximum average precipitation occurs in August, but even then the average rainfall is less than two inches! Spring is considered our windy season. Summer rains in July and August fall almost entirely during brief, but frequently intense, thunderstorms that are fabulous to watch. The average annual precipitation is only 10 inches. The winter months provide opportunities for excellent skiing and other winter sports.
